Meet Michael Pennington

A Master Craftsman in all aspects of the finishing industry, Michael specializes in an artistic approach not typically offered by painting contractors. Being active in the historic architectural details restoration field, he has single handedly brought back to life, numerous artistically embellished walls, ceilings, columns, millwork, murals and statuary.

Past historic architectural clients include: The Los Angeles Biltmore Hotel, Rivera Country Club, El Rodeo Elementary School, Saint James Catholic Church, Saint Anthony's Cathedral, Saint James Cathedral, The 5th Avenue Theatre, The Ventura Theater and Regent Beverly Wilshire Hotel and Meridian Studios. Also included are numerous registered landmarks and private residences in Victorian, Edwardian, and Neo Classical schools of architecture.

He specializes in successfully taking on extremely difficult projects that others have deemed impossible or failed to complete, as well as creating unique wall, floor and woodwork finishes not found in catalogues or color charts. He enjoys making the new look old, and the old look new again.

His passion and attention to detail is what gives his work the refinement, and unusual quality it has achieved. Michael has an extensive background in the creation of fine art, and has studied the history of art and architecture. He has spent decades fine tuning his quallia, or perception of color. A skill especially useful for onsite repairs and successful color matching of existing glazed, stained and patinated surfaces.

Having been professionally active for the last 36 years, Michael has developed his own techniques, and has successfully implemented them in his finishing work. He has also instructed classes on museum quality decorative finishes, lime slake Italian plasters, wall glazing, as well as gold and silver leafing.

Over the years, he has become competent with regards to resolving crucial issues such as proper substrate preparation and adhesion, and using suitably compatible materials designed to withstand the effects of solar, atmospheric and environmental degradation.

He couples his artistry with expertise in onsite professional spray operations, and has applied every industrial chemical coating ever developed thus far. He takes great care protecting adjacent surfaces from overspray, and insuring the health and safety of any occupants.

Michael has been involved in onsite warranty work from coast to coast, for major kitchen cabinet showrooms who sell William Ohs, Siematic, Wood Mode, and other lesser known manufacturers.

His range of experience includes successful completion of projects in hotels, churches, casinos, restaurants, historic theaters, luxury motor vessels, private clubs, schools, high end residences, corporate headquarters, and the restoration of classic automobiles to 99 point concours d'elegance standards.

He utilizes a business model of listening, and clear two way communication, as well as complete focus on one client at a time. He then insures his clients are made aware of every aspect of their projects, including the how's and why's of the time frames and costs involved, which are always dependent on what is requested.

Michael's stellar reputation has been built on successfully completing impossible projects with unreasonable deadlines, for very difficult to please clients. His guarantee is to always meet, or better yet exceed, client expectations and specifications.
